What this means

Average AEO score across nine canonical business categories: SaaS, Media, Tech, Health, Retail, Restaurants, Services, Education, Other. Categories are auto-classified from each brand's page content using a deterministic classifier.

Why it matters for businesses

SaaS, Media, and Tech score highest - they bake structured content into their existing marketing because they already think about it for SEO and developer audiences. Restaurants, services, and local retail score lowest - heavy on emotional copy, light on the structured signals LLMs need. If you're in a low-scoring category, "doing the basics" already puts you ahead of 80% of your peers. If you're in a high-scoring category, the bar is higher and the work is in the details.

How we measure this

Every brand gets sorted into a category based on what their site is actually about - SaaS, Media, Retail, Restaurants, and so on. Then we average the AEO score per category. Smaller categories are folded into the most relevant parent so the comparison stays apples-to-apples.
