Booking and payment – how does it work exactly?

You have two simple options. 1. Direct booking: based on the guides on our website, you can book the car directly on our partners’ websites. Use the VAMOS5 or VAMOS10 promo code and you get 5–10% off the car price. 2. Request an offer via form: fill in the quote request form and we’ll send you the best offers already including the discount. If you like one of them, we’ll arrange the booking with our partners. Payment: you pay on the spot when you pick up the car, in cash or by bank card.

Do I need a credit card and a deposit to rent a car?

No, with our partners you don’t need either a credit card or a deposit to rent a car. Payment is simple and flexible: you can pay on the spot when you pick up the car, in cash, by bank card, or even with Apple Pay and Google Pay.

What insurance is included for the rental car and what exactly does it cover?

With all our partners you can rent a car with full insurance cover. RentX: if you choose the 'Rent with Insurance' package, the insurance covers all damage, including wheels, windscreen and mirrors. Rent-A-Car Madeira: the base price includes full insurance for bodywork and theft protection. For an extra 10 € per day you can extend it to cover the windscreen, mirrors and tyres as well. Auto Canhas: the base price includes full insurance for the bodywork. For an extra 5 € per day you can add additional cover for wheels, windscreen and mirrors.

What is the 1000 € Car4YouMadeira Guarantee and what does it cover?

The 1000 € Car4YouMadeira Guarantee gives you extra protection for every booking. If you use the VAMOS5 or VAMOS10 promo code, or if we arrange the booking for you, your reservation is automatically covered by the guarantee. It covers situations such as not being able to pick up the car because of a flight delay, fines or charges that you didn’t cause, and unjustified extra fees charged by the rental company. This way you can avoid unpleasant surprises and get coverage for unexpected costs up to 1000 €.

Can I rent a car for just 1 or 2 days?

Yes, of course you can rent a car even just for 1 or 2 days. However, in high season it’s worth booking in advance so you secure the better price and the availability of the car.

How far in advance should I book a car to get the best deals?

From our experience, the best is to book your car 1–3 months before your trip. If you try to book too early, for example 6–12 months ahead, that period is often not priced yet, so the prices can be higher.

Where can I pick up or drop off the car?

You can pick up and drop off the car at several locations, including the airport, Machico, Funchal, hotel or apartment delivery, and in most towns along Madeira’s south coast. What happens if my flight is delayed?

If your flight is delayed, the car rental company will wait for you. If you know you’ll be more than 2 hours late or arrive on a different flight, let them know via WhatsApp or email. If you arrive outside opening hours: RentX 08:00–19:00, pick-up outside these hours costs an extra 40 €; Auto Canhas 08:00–22:00, out-of-hours pick-up is available at no extra charge; Rent-A-Car Madeira 09:00–19:00, pick-up outside these hours costs an extra 25 €.
