What is the origin of Motorica?

In 2019, researchers Gustav Henter and Simon Alexanderson achieved an early breakthrough in deep generative modeling for motion synthesis. Their innovation led to the incorporation of Motorica in 2020, supported by an Epic MegaGrant, to further advance the science. In 2023, repeat founder Willem Demmers partnered with the researchers to found a startup built on their breakthrough, with the mission of empowering animators by automating chores so they can focus on creative work.

What if we need more specific or specialized animations that I can't generate using Motorica's styles?

If you need an animation style that doesn't already belong within Motorica's provided style suite, you can use 5-10 minutes of your own recorded motion capture data to create your own style clone.

What kinds of animations does Motorica generate?

Motorica generates grounded locomotion animations for a range of gameplay & cinematics use-cases.

What is motion matching?

Motion matching is a gameplay-animation technique that selects the most appropriate animations for a character from large locomotion datasets. For motion matching to be fluid, accurate, and realistic, you need large swaths of polished and varied 3D motion data.

How does Motorica guarantee the animation coverage that I need?

Motorica’s Motion Factory is backed by extensive research & coordination with industry-experts in Motion Matching. Through this, we have developed specialised tooling to create animation datasets that (provide full coverage) for the most complex locomotion systems, with enough versatility to be reactive to player input.

Who owns the animations made with Motorica's platform?

Motorica owns the animations created with the platform. You receive a license to use them for the project(s) listed in your agreement, including when using Style Clones trained on your studio's data.

How does Motorica ensure their data chain of title?

All data utilized by Motorica either comes from our in-house mocap studio, with paid actors performing motion capture, or mocap data that has been properly licensed to ensure a clear chain-of-title.
