Functional medicine is a root-cause approach that investigates why a disease developed, not just what to prescribe. Our board-certified MDs use 60+ minute consultations, advanced lab panels, and personalized plans combining conventional medicine, nutrition, supplements, IV therapies, and lifestyle optimization — far beyond what a standard 10-minute appointment allows.

Does Patients Medical accept insurance?

We are a private-pay practice — by design. Insurance restrictions force doctors into 10-minute visits and limit testing and treatment options. Operating outside insurance allows our physicians to spend 60+ minutes per patient and order comprehensive functional panels. CareCredit financing is available. We provide superbills for out-of-network reimbursement requests.

What is bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT)?

BHRT uses hormones molecularly identical to those your body produces naturally. We prescribe BHRT after comprehensive hormone testing, customized to your individual levels. We offer BHRT for women (menopause, perimenopause, estrogen, progesterone, pellets) and men (testosterone therapy) — designed to restore natural hormone balance with fewer side effects.

How long has Patients Medical been in practice?

Patients Medical was founded in 1974 — over 50 years ago — in Manhattan, co-founded by Dr. Warren Levin and Dr. Robert Atkins, the pioneer of nutritional medicine behind the Atkins Diet. Today the clinic is led by Medical Director Dr. Rashmi Gulati, MD, who has served since 2004. Many patients have received ongoing care here for decades.

What is the first visit like at Patients Medical?

Your first visit begins with a 60-minute (or longer) consultation. Your physician reviews your complete health history, symptoms, lifestyle, and goals in depth. A personalized panel of advanced laboratory tests is ordered to uncover root causes. At a follow-up visit, your doctor presents a fully customized treatment plan that may include dietary changes, supplements, hormones, IV therapies, and lifestyle guidance.
