What is StandBy?

StandBy is a multimodal, always-on AI personal assistant app for iOS. It runs in the background on your iPhone — no need to open the app — and automatically transcribes everything you say and hear, then generates lifelogs, to-do lists, and AI-powered meeting minutes. Developed by AI-zen, Inc. (Tokyo, founded 2024). Winner of the Cisco Systems Prize at HONGO AI 2025.

How is StandBy different from Otter.ai, Plaud, or Limitless?

Otter.ai is a meeting-focused transcription tool that you activate manually. Plaud is a dedicated hardware recording device. Limitless Pendant is a wearable designed for work conversations. StandBy is always-on in the background on your existing iPhone — no extra hardware needed — and captures all your daily conversations, not just meetings, automatically structuring them into searchable lifelogs, tasks, and minutes.

Can I integrate StandBy with Claude, ChatGPT, or other AI assistants?

Yes. StandBy supports REST API, Webhook, and an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server, allowing AI assistants like Claude Desktop to query your StandBy data — lifelogs, notes, and transcriptions — directly. API keys are issued from the console.

Is my data safe?

Yes. All data is encrypted at rest, and no one — including our team — can access your data. You can also use the self-host option to send audio directly to your own server.

How much battery does it use?

StandBy uses less power than the default iPhone voice recorder. Even after 8 hours of use, battery consumption stays in the low single digits (measured on iPhone 17).

How accurate is the transcription?

We use the latest AI models with support for virtually every language. StandBy handles noisy environments, audio from a phone in your pocket, and mixed-language conversations — all seamlessly.

What should I do if I find a bug?

StandBy is updated every day. Just send us a message and we'll fix it quickly.

Can I export my data?

Yes — all your data can be fully exported. Check the API docs for details.
