What is Touchstone?

Touchstone is an AI-powered venture validation tool for founders, businesses, government teams, and organisations. Submit an idea, complete a guided intake, and receive a structured six-dimension assessment with a Go/No-Go verdict. Approved ventures receive a complete document suite — Vision, Brand Guidelines, Product Requirements, Build Guide, Marketing Plan, and more. The strategic capability that used to cost $50,000 in consulting fees, delivered in a single session.

Who is Touchstone for?

Solo founders, small businesses, government teams, and corporate innovation units. Anyone who needs to know whether an idea is worth building before they commit time, capital, or people to it. Touchstone is particularly useful at the moment between "I have an idea" and "I am building." It is not a tool for late-stage founders with a working product — that is what The Assay is for.

How is Touchstone different from generic validation tools or AI coaches?

Generic validation tools score ideas; AI coaches encourage them. Touchstone does both honestly. Every idea is scored across six dimensions — Market Size, Founder–Market Fit, Revenue Clarity, Viral Mechanic, Competitive Position, and Solo Operator Feasibility — using the same methodology Digital Venture Studio uses on its own ventures. The verdict is structured: Go, Conditional Go, or No-Go, with reasoning. Approved ideas walk out with the documents needed to start building. Failed ideas walk out with a clear understanding of what went wrong and what would need to change.

How does the Go/No-Go decision work?

Your idea is analysed across six dimensions. Each dimension receives a numeric score from 1 to 10 with reasoning. A weighted composite score is computed. A Go verdict means the composite is above the approval threshold and no kill conditions were triggered. A Conditional Go means the score is in the conditional range, with specific conditions named. A No-Go means the composite is below the threshold or one or more kill conditions triggered. The verdict is the AI's opinion, not a definitive judgment about your idea or your ability — but it is a structured, repeatable, defensible opinion.

What does it cost?

Explorer is free — full validation, no documents. Founder Pass is USD $99 per month and includes the full pipeline plus five documents: Vision, Brand Guidelines, PRD, Build Guide, and Marketing Plan. Founder Plus is USD $149 per month and adds Business Case, Build Checklist, Activity Tracker, and refinement features. Studio is USD $199 per month and adds unlimited concurrent projects. The free Explorer tier exists so founders can validate an idea and see Touchstone's reasoning before paying.

What if my idea fails the assessment?

A No-Go at the validation stage costs a session and a conversation; the same decision discovered after twelve months of building costs everything. If your idea does not pass, Touchstone tells you exactly why — and in most cases, identifies what would need to change for it to pass. Honest advice is the service. A failed verdict is a success, not a failure.

Can I improve my score?

Yes. Founder Plus and Studio subscribers can refine specific dimensions by submitting new evidence — for example, customer letters of intent, user research, sales data, competitive analysis, or expert validation. The AI re-evaluates the dimension with the new evidence and the verdict may change. The refinement system is designed to reward founders who do real work between assessments, not those who phrase the same idea differently.

Who stands behind Touchstone?

Touchstone is a Digital Venture Studio product. The methodology is owned by Rick Musial, founder of Digital Venture Studio. The same methodology validated DVS itself before being offered to anyone else — every document, every principle, and every design decision was tested against a real venture first. The validated specification produced by Touchstone for any approved idea is buildable: a competent developer who has never spoken to the founder can build the product correctly from the documents alone.
