It was a good run, but all things must end. This site has been around in various designs since 1990 to 2026...Over 30 years we've been dispensing the truth on our beloved dog breed the Alaskan Malamute. However, we are now personally getting long in the tooth. Our last O'Mal bred girl, LeeLou from our last litter is 14. It's hard to find time for maintenance, and people prefer videos to reading these days. We've helped thousands of Malamute owners by email and phone over the years because of the website. Omalmalamutes.com was banned in China in the 2000's along with mega sites like Google and Yahoo. We accomplished being a top 1000 website in the WORLD per Alexa, and ranked #1 in Google for many years, and more importantly, were the first to acknowledge wooly Malamutes exist. LeeLou's sister, Holly the Wooly Malamute, has her own fan page and is popular on Facebook short videos if you need a Mal fix :).
We tried to make our site educational, not just for dog show brags or to sell puppies. Our goal was simple - make Malamutes great house pets by giving their owners the tools to keep them in the house and not abandoned outside. It started with 1 page and eventually grew to over 260 individual informational pages. Some pages have been translated into French and Chinese thanks to our awesome visitors. I learned web development building this site, got employed because of it, and experimented with new techniques and methods with it- from php to cheesy photo carousels to affiliate marketing. I never used paywalls - the information was always free for all because it was a labor of love. Through it all my most treasured page was the Rainbow Bridge page that honored all of our dogs and our puppy owners' dogs that have gone before. Many of our puppy owners have become like family.
This site spawned sister sites - Dogswithdisablities.com, Steampup.com and several more. I never used ghost writers or AI to create anything...and give a big thank you to our puppy owners who shared pictures, stories and support. Articles were quirky to serious to hilariously funny - hopefully always useful and informative. Originally I hosted the site on geocities for free, then my own server and finally a paid hosting service. In an age of videos and AI content, we've become something of a dinosaur - just photos and personally written stories about our own experiences so it's time to move on. After this site is removed (probably by January 2027) you'll be able to find some of the pages on the Wayback machine - they have a lot of them. It's been great and it kind of makes me sad to say goodbye. We will miss you all. Hug your Malamutes for us! Love, Cindy & Dan
