What is the difference between a shrink sleeve labeler and a traditional pressure-sensitive labeler?

The primary difference lies in the application and container coverage. A shrink sleeve labeler (or sleever machine) applies a plastic film "sleeve" over a container that is then passed through a shrink tunnel. The heat causes the sleeve label to conform 360 degrees to the container’s unique contours, allowing for full-body branding. In contrast, pressure-sensitive labelers apply flat, adhesive-backed labels that are generally limited to the flat surfaces of a bottle or jar.

Can a shrink sleeve machine also provide tamper-evident protection for my products?

Yes. High-performance shrink sleeve equipment is incredibly versatile. A tamper evident labeler can be configured to apply "cap seals" or neck bands that ensure product integrity. Many brands utilize a shrink sleeve machine to apply a full-body label that extends over the cap with a perforated line, serving both as the primary branding and a safety seal in a single pass.

Why is the shrink tunnel just as important as the sleever itself?

While the sleever is responsible for the high-speed, precise placement of the label, the shrink tunnel (whether steam, electric, or radiant heat) is what determines the final aesthetic quality. Without a properly calibrated tunnel, even the best shrink sleeve labeler can result in "smiling" (distorted graphics), bubbles, or uneven shrinking. Integrated shrink sleeve equipment ensures that the timing between application and heating is synchronized for a perfect, wrinkle-free finish.
