AEO Glossary

E-E-A-T

E-E-A-T stands for Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness. It is a framework from Google's Search Quality Evaluator Guidelines that AI models and search engines use to assess whether a piece of content is credible enough to surface in answers. The first 'E' for Experience was added in 2022 to distinguish content created by people with first-hand experience versus secondhand summaries.

Why it matters for AEO

AI answer engines trained on web data have absorbed the concept of E-E-A-T and actively prefer citing sources that demonstrate these signals. A brand with strong E-E-A-T signals - named authors on content, verifiable credentials, customer reviews with schema markup, press mentions, and a detailed About page - will be cited far more often than a faceless site with generic content.

How to implement

Add named authors with Author schema to every article and blog post. Create a detailed About page with founder bios, credentials, and founding story. Add Review or AggregateRating schema to product and service pages. Get listed on credible industry directories. Earn press coverage and link your media mentions. Add Person schema for key team members with sameAs links to their LinkedIn profiles.
