AEO Glossary
A knowledge panel is an information box that Google displays on the right side of search results (desktop) or at the top (mobile) for entities that appear in Google's Knowledge Graph. For brands, knowledge panels show the company name, logo, description, founded date, founders, key facts, and social profiles.
A knowledge panel is the highest-value organic presence a brand can have - it's a zero-click brand profile that appears for branded and category searches. Brands with knowledge panels are confirmed as entities in Google's Knowledge Graph, which directly correlates with being cited accurately in AI-generated answers. The presence of a knowledge panel is a strong signal that a brand has high entity clarity.
Earn a knowledge panel by: completing a Google Business Profile (for local businesses); adding Organization schema with complete sameAs links; getting listed on Wikidata (the most direct path for non-local brands); earning press coverage on authoritative news sites; ensuring consistent brand NAP across the web. Claim your knowledge panel via the 'Claim this knowledge panel' link if it already exists.
