AEO Glossary

sameAs

sameAs is a Schema.org property used in Organization, Person, and other entity schemas to declare that the described entity is the same as entities found at the provided URLs. Common sameAs values include social media profiles, Wikidata entries, Wikipedia articles, and directory listings.

Why it matters for AEO

sameAs is the key mechanism by which AI models and search engines resolve entity disambiguation - confirming that 'Your Brand' on your website is the same 'Your Brand' on LinkedIn, Crunchbase, and Wikipedia. Without sameAs links, AI knowledge bases may maintain separate, conflicting entries for what is actually a single entity.

How to implement

In your Organization JSON-LD, add a sameAs array with the full URLs of your brand's presence across the web. Minimum recommended: LinkedIn company page, Twitter/X profile, Instagram profile, Facebook page. Add Wikidata entity URL, Wikipedia URL, Crunchbase URL, and industry-specific directories if applicable. Keep these URLs current - broken sameAs links reduce entity confidence.
