The Muse Index

Can an AI agent buy from you?

AI agents like Meta's Muse now find products and pay for them on a shopper's behalf. They skip any store they cannot read. The Muse Index scores your site from 0 to 100 on whether an agent can tell who you are, see what you sell and what it costs, and act on it.

What changed

Shoppers are handing the buying to agents

In September 2026 Meta launched Muse, an AI agent in its own app and inside WhatsApp. A person tells it what they need. Muse goes to the web, compares options and completes the purchase. Shopify has opened agent checkout on its stores, and other AI assistants are adding the same ability.

An agent does not look at your design. It reads the information underneath: what the business is, what each product costs, whether it is in stock. If it cannot read those, it moves to a store where it can. Most websites were built for people and never checked for this.

Where companies stand

Most US companies are not ready

Every company in the Engagemii index has a Muse Index. This is how US companies fall across the four levels. Outside the US it is lower still: about 1 in 40 companies an agent can buy from.

Not agent-ready22%

An agent cannot tell who the company is or what it sells.

Basic52%

Some business data an agent can read, but nothing it can answer from or buy.

Agent-ready20%

The agent can identify the business and answer questions about it.

Transactable6%

The agent can find a product, read its price, and act on it.

What it checks

Nine things an agent needs from your site

Your check shows each one as found or missing.

Who you are
Your business name, type and details, written in the code agents read, not only in the design people see.
What you sell
Your products described as products, so an agent can list and compare them.
What it costs
A price on each product that an agent can read, compare and act on.
Whether it is in stock
Availability an agent can check before it tries to buy.
A checkout agents can use
A checkout system AI agents already pay through, such as Shop Pay on Shopify stores.
Answers to real questions
Questions and answers an agent can quote when a shopper asks about you.
Proof you are real
Links from your site to your official profiles, so an agent can confirm it has the right business.
A map of your site
A sitemap or an AI guide file that tells an agent where everything is.
Doors open to AI
Your site does not turn away the AI crawlers that search engines and agents use.

How to raise it

Most of the fix is a few files on your site

The free Engagemii fix kit writes them from your own site: your business details, your products with prices and stock, questions with answers, and a product feed guide. Add them and check again.

Questions

What is the Muse Index?

A score from 0 to 100 for how ready a website is for AI agents that shop and act for people. It checks whether an agent can identify the business, understand what it sells, read prices and availability, find answers, and reach the site. Every company in the Engagemii index has one.

Why is it called the Muse Index?

After Meta's Muse, the AI agent Meta launched in September 2026. Muse can browse the web and complete purchases for the people who use it. The Muse Index is Engagemii's own measure and is not made by or affiliated with Meta.

Does Muse use the Muse Index to decide what to buy?

No. Meta has not published how Muse chooses products or stores. The Muse Index measures what any AI agent needs from a website before it can act on it: who you are, what you sell, what it costs, and whether it can get in.

How is it different from the AI visibility score?

The AI visibility score, 0 to 10, measures whether AI engines like ChatGPT can find, read and cite you. The Muse Index measures whether an AI agent can act on you. A site can be easy to cite and still impossible for an agent to buy from.

How do I raise my Muse Index?

Most of it is code on your own site: business details, products with prices and stock, and questions with answers. The free Engagemii fix kit writes these files for you from your own site, including product code and a product feed guide.

Is it free?

Yes. Checking your site, your full score page and the fix kit are free for your own business. No card and no account.

Muse is a product of Meta. The Muse Index is an independent Engagemii measure and is not made by, endorsed by or affiliated with Meta.
