Frequently Asked Questions

Can I choose a family for my baby?

Yes. We have a variety of adoptive parents to choose from, or if you already know a family we can work with that situation as well.

Can I get information about the child after the adoption?

Yes. You and the adoptive parents will create an agreement about exchanging future information. This can include receiving letters and pictures on a regular basis, and the possibility of having visits with the child and adoptive parents through the years.

Does the birth father have to be involved in the adoption?

In Minnesota, it is not legally required to involve the birth father unless you are married to him, living with him at the time of birth or placement, or his name goes on the baby’s birth certificate.

How long do I have to change my mind about placing my baby for adoption?

You can change your mind about placing your baby until your written consent becomes final. In Minnesota the earliest a birth parent can sign a consent is at 72 hours after the baby is born, and you must sign within 60 days from birth. You have 10 working days from the date you sign the consent before it becomes final and irrevocable.

Can I get help with my expenses?

Minnesota law allows the adoptive parents to help pay for counseling, legal fees and pregnancy related living expenses. BIRTH PARENT STORIES Our Adoption Process
