Can Stayntech® masonry stains be applied over painted brick?

Paint is not breathable and will saturate masonry pores under a non-permeable film that lies on the brick surface. As brick is a highly porous material, our stains are formulated to soak into masonry and are not recommended for painted brick. Some surfaces can be stripped of paint and then stained however incorrect methods used for removing paint can cause substantial damage. Please consult with a professional before attempting any type of paint removal from your masonry.

Are your masonry stains environmentally friendly?

All of our Stayntech® masonry stain products are environmentally safe, water-based proprietary blends that carry low VOC ratings. They have very low odor and have undergone extensive standard materials testing (ASTM).

Do your Stayntech® masonry stains fade over time?

Over time, the only noticeable color changes will be those resulting from natural environmental conditions to which the structure is subjected.

How long does brick stain last?

Our proprietary brick stains are absorbed by and integrate with the face of masonry, resulting in a consistent finish that is permanent, looks entirely natural, and is maintenance-free. As brick is a highly porous material, our natural looking masonry stains are formulated to create a chemical bond with brick and will never chip or flake due to moisture trapped within the masonry. Importantly, our masonry staining projects are warranted for 15 years against bubbling, chipping or flaking.

How do I apply Stayntech® Masonry Stain?

Stayntech Renew® is applied with an airless sprayer such as a Graco 390 or Ultra II. Stayntech Enhance® is applied with a 2-inch roller.

The primary differences between our exclusive masonry stains and paint include durability, breathability and aesthetic appearance. When paint is applied to brick, it saturates the masonry’s pores, preventing it from releasing moisture. Water is trapped behind a non-permeable film that lies on the brick surface, resulting in unsightly blistering and peeling.
