WHAT IS CANSAT JUNIOR?

CanSat Junior is a project inspired by real space missions, adapted for elementary school students. Teams work on their own satellite, about the size of a soda can, which contains sensors, control electronics, and an experiment of their own design. Unlike with standard construction kits, students do not follow a predetermined set of instructions but instead tackle an open-ended challenge.

How does it work?

The project mirrors the real-world development of technical equipment and is divided into several phases: First, the team designs its own experiment or the mission it wants to perform. It then designs the structure and builds its CanSat, including the necessary electronics and software. After assembly, testing takes place, during which students verify functionality and resolve any issues that arise.

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?

The project is designed for students in grades 6–9 of elementary schools and corresponding grades in multi-year high schools. Entire classes, smaller teams, and extracurricular clubs can participate. CanSat Junior is designed to be manageable even for schools with no prior experience with similar projects. The project includes instructional materials and support to help teachers and students navigate each step.

Why is it important?

CanSat Junior brings an element to the classroom that is often missing: working on a real-world project with a clear goal and outcome. Students do not acquire knowledge in isolation, but in the context of a specific task. In this way, they naturally integrate physics, mathematics, programming, and technical thinking.

The project combines expertise in education with real-world technical projects, with the goal of introducing the younger generation to space and technology in a meaningful and practical way. It’s not just about conveying information, but about creating an environment where students can actually try things out, make mistakes, and understand how development works in practice.
