My husband and I live in the cozy town of Salado, TX with our kiddos and wonderful dogs. Our world and days revolve around raising all of them, and while sometimes stressful, it is also very fulfilling. The pure joy and happiness I get to witness when someone meets their new puppy for the first time, is indescribable. I have been involved with breeding miniature schnauzers since 2010, when what started out as a single breeding that produced 3 puppies that all went to friends and family, turned into a fulfilling and life-changing hobby. Our main priority is ensuring the health and well-being of all our pets from birth until they leave with their furever family - and beyond. We raise our puppies to have friendly dispositions and fit in seamlessly as incredible family pets.*We do not allow anyone over to our home to pick out their puppy or to pick up their puppy. This is for the safety of our family, pets, and puppies. I understand this may not be preferable for you, but if one puppy catches something from someone visiting or handling it, and then goes back to their littermates, they could all catch it and even spread it to other litters. It’s just not worth the risk of not only the puppies being affected, but also the heartbreak of the other families if they lose their puppy.*At Fancy Feet Schnauzers, we take the health of our puppies and adults very seriously. From the moment a breeding is performed, we are there and involved every step of the way to make sure everyone is kept safe, especially during birth. As each litter grows, we take appropriate measures to ensure each puppy is wormed properly to avoid any intestinal parasites. They are wormed every 2 weeks with the appropriate wormer beginning at 2 weeks of age. We have tails docked and dew claws removed anywhere from 2-4 days old (unless requested otherwise beforehand). They’re groomed at 6 weeks of age (unless requested otherwise). We schedule their vet visits as close to 8 weeks of age as possible and then they’re allowed to go home once cleared by the vet. We also have vaccines and microchips implanted at 7.5-8 weeks of age. We do try to do weekly photo updates, but sometimes it’s easier to do videos since puppies like to move a lot! Any video updates we take will be posted on our Facebook page. Our puppies begin weaning around 5 weeks of age and we also begin getting them accustomed to using a litter box shortly before that. We train them by putting them in a small area with just enough room for their bed and the litter box. They tend to catch on rather quickly, so we then increase or decrease their play area as needed depending on how well they’re doing on the litter box training. This helps keep their area clean since puppies tend to not care at all where they relieve themselves or if they run through it. This also helps the new owner continue working on potty training once the puppy goes home with them and while it’s still unsafe for the puppy to be put on the ground until all vaccines have been given. We handle our puppies on a daily basis to get them accustomed to us and being picked up. Once they’re old enough to see well enough, which is around 3 weeks of age, we start letting our children handle them on the floor with supervision. As they grow, we give them plenty of toys to interact with and teethe on. All of our puppies are weaned by 6 weeks of age, unless we have a very small puppy that needs to stay with mom a little longer. This gives the momma time to dry her milk up and allows the puppies to begin learning independence. The momma is reintroduced to her puppies to play and teach them lessons once her milk is gone. This is also the time we start letting the puppies play outside, as long as the weather is nice. We spray their play areas with Wysiwash which kills a number of bacterias and parasites, including parvo, so we feel confident allowing them on the ground at our location.
