What even is a VPS?

A VPS is your own computer — but it doesn't sit on your desk. It lives inside a giant building full of computers, somewhere out in the world. It's switched on all day and all night, forever. Nobody else uses it. It's yours to boss around. VPS is short for Virtual Private Server. That's just a fancy way of saying: your own always-on computer, out there. Whoa! Your VPS never turns off.

What's in the box?

Nobody hands you an actual box. They hand you three little secrets. That's everything you need to find your computer and get inside it. 📡 Secret 1 The Address A number like 203.0.113.45. That's where your computer lives on the internet — like a house address, but for a machine. 👑 Secret 2 The Name You log in as root. Root is the boss — it can do anything on the machine.

How do you boss it around?

You type magic words into a little black window — and the far-away computer does what you say. The magic word is SSH. Open PowerShell (you already know that one!), type ssh root@ and the address, then give your secret. Boom — now everything you type is happening on the far-away machine, not on yours. Can I put my files on it? (Is there FTP?)?

Yes — and it's the part you already know how to do. You won't use plain FTP. You'll use its cooler cousin, SFTP. It sends your files through that same secret tunnel, all locked up safe on the way.
