Am I eligible to apply for FRCPath-1 Haematology exam ?

As per RCPath guidance, if you are a UK trainee, you are expected to have passed MRCP and to set your exam in ST4 as you are generally expected to pass part 1 by ST5. You will need to have your supervisor’s signature on the sponsor form. If you are not a UK trainee; eg speciality doctor, trust grade or an overseas haematologist, then it is basically your supervisor’s signature on the sponsor form what is required.

Is FRCPath certificate enough for GMC registration ?

FRCPATH is an accepted post graduate qualification for GMC registration. Possession of FRCPath is the ideal route towards GMC registration for any IMG doctor that wants to work as a Haematologist in the UK.

How many marks should I get to pass the MCQ exam ?

FRCPath is marked via Angoff method so it varies depending on difficulty and performance of your peers. Saying that, those getting 75/125 should usually pass.

How can I apply for the FRCPath-1 preparatory virtual course ?

FRCPASS academy provide a renowned 4 days virtual preparatory course for FRCPath-1 exam. There are no specific sources that I can revise from, how should I start my revision ?

BSH Haematology guidelines are the main source for your revision, other sources would include ISTH guidelines for Haemostasis, NHSBT and JPAC guidelines for transfusion…etc. Remember that, this is a UK based exam so examiners would generally expect your answers to match the UK practice, eg; ASH guidelines could suggest treatment options that are not NICE licensed.
