HeapsGood Packaging HQ is located in Melbourne at 3-5 Dissik Street, Cheltenham. We're 100% Aussie-owned and operated.

What makes packaging sustainable?

It's all about the materials, bby. All of our consumable products have been designed with disposal in mind, and are either recyclable, compostable, or both! Added bonus: HeapsGood is proudly BCorp certified, so you can be sure our products and operations meet the highest social responsibility standards.

What is compostable packaging?

Our compostable shipping mailers are made from a combination of cornstarch, PLA (vegetable-based plastic material) and PBAT (composting co-polymer). Want to learn more? Read our HeapsGood blog post on PBAT , which explains the key ingredients used in compostable packaging.

Is compostable packaging biodegradable?

Get ready for some sciencey speak! All compostable products are technically biodegradable, but not all biodegradable products are compostable. Both of them will break down in the presence of microorganisms, fungi, or bacteria, but products that are certified 'compostable' according to actual Australian or international standards will break down without any nasty toxicity within a dedicated timeframe. Is compostable packaging good?

We believe that home and industrial composting will become key environmental processes in the future circular economy, similar to how recycling's become just another thing we do over the last 30 years. Mainstream composting will help us reduce the amount of food and packaging heading to landfill, the methane productions it causes, and temper single-use plastic pollution. Can compostable packaging be recycled?

Compostable packaging can only be recycled if it's certified compostable and recyclable . For eggsample, our Hex Wrap can be both composted and recycled. Don't recycle products that are only compostable like our HeapsGood Ecomailers – they're only for the compost!

What certifications do HeapsGood mailers have?

Our mailers are certified compostable by EN 13432 under international standards, equivalent to AS5810. That means they’ve been independently tested to break down safely in real-world compost conditions, not just in a lab somewhere . We don’t rely on vague “eco” claims. Everything is backed by third-party certification so you know it actually does what it says.

What’s the difference between your mailers and traditional plastic?

Traditional plastic mailers can stick around for hundreds of years and often break down into microplastics. HeapsGood mailers are made from plant-based materials that break down into compost, not pollution. No microplastics, no long-term waste problem, just a material that goes back to where it came from. Same job, very different ending.
