What Is Compost?

Compost is nature’s recycling system. It’s the process of turning food scraps, yard waste, and other organic materials into nutrient-rich soil. When we compost, we return valuable nutrients back to the earth instead of sending them to the landfill. Compost can be made in many ways — backyard bins, worm bins (vermicomposting), bokashi systems, community drop-offs — and there is no single “right” method.
