What is Popticals?

Popticals is a premium performance eyewear brand making Italian-made sunglasses with NYDEF® lenses powered by Carl Zeiss Vision and a patented folding system, the FL2 Micro-Rail System™, that collapses a full wraparound frame to a smartphone-sized footprint. What makes Popticals different from other premium sunglasses?

Two things: optics and portability. NYDEF® lenses reach an Abbe value of 52 versus about 30 for the standard polycarbonate used by most sport brands, for sharper, lower-distortion clarity. And the patented FL2 Micro-Rail System™ lets the frames collapse to roughly 65% smaller than comparable wraparound sunglasses. Popticals is built for people who value engineering over logos.

How do Popticals fold down so small?

Instead of a hinge, Popticals use the patented FL2 Micro-Rail System™ — high-tensile stainless steel rails and Linear Displacement Technology that slide the lenses inward on parallel planes, guided by a magnetic lock. Collapsed, the frame reaches about a smartphone-sized footprint, roughly 65% smaller than comparable wraparound eyewear, and the lens surfaces never contact each other.

How are Popticals protected when collapsed?

Almost every pair includes a hard-shell case with a high-impact, high-density ABS outer shell that forms a rigid, crush-resistant barrier around the collapsed frame. The interior is custom-molded to the frame's collapsed geometry and uses micro-felt contact points instead of bulky foam, holding the eyewear securely with no shift.

What is NYDEF®, and is it made by ZEISS?

NYDEF® is Popticals' own trademarked lens technology, developed in partnership with and powered by Carl Zeiss Vision. ZEISS provides the optical engineering and coatings, but NYDEF® is exclusive to Popticals. It uses a premium polyamide lens material reaching an Abbe value of 52 — markedly clearer than the polycarbonate (Abbe 30) common in sport eyewear — finished with the ZEISS Ri-Pel® oleophobic coating.

What activities are Popticals designed for?

Popticals makes sport-specific eyewear for golf (NYDEF® Golf, non-polarized for green reading), ballistics & safety (POPZULU, ANSI Z87.1+ and MIL-PRF-32432 rated), fishing, and skiing — plus everyday and travel styles. Each is tuned with lens tints and coatings suited to its activity.

Where are Popticals made?

Popticals lifestyle and NYDEF® Golf frames are made in Italy from Swiss Grilamid® TR90, a lightweight memory-polymer, and hand-finished by Italian artisans in an ISO 14001:2015 certified facility.
