What industries does ProPlate serve?

ProPlate serves the medical device, dental, aerospace and defense, semiconductor and electronics, and energy technology industries. Over 80% of our clientele is in the medical device sector, where we specialize in precious metal plating for catheter-based components, implantables, and electrophysiology devices.

What metal finishes does ProPlate offer?

ProPlate offers nine metal finishes: gold, platinum, rhodium, palladium, palladium-nickel alloy, silver, nickel, copper, and tin-lead. Several finishes are available in multiple bath chemistries depending on application requirements for hardness, purity, or biocompatibility. Our primary finishes for precision electroplating for medical devices is gold, silver, and platinum.

Is ProPlate ISO certified?

Yes. ProPlate is ISO 13485:2016 certified across both facilities in Anoka, Minnesota. Both locations execute IQ, OQ, and PQ protocols and maintain in-house chemistry lab and inspection capabilities. ProPlate is also RoHS and REACH compliant.

What is selective plating and does ProPlate offer it?

Selective plating is the process of depositing metal only on specific areas of a component, leaving other surfaces unplated. ProPlate offers proprietary selective plating capabilities using various maskant application systems, allowing precise metallization on complex geometries and non-standard part shapes that go beyond traditional limitations.

Can ProPlate plate onto polymer substrates?

Yes. ProPlate metalizes onto medical-grade polymer substrates including Pebax, nylon, urethane, PET, and others. Our Meta-Poly® technology enables selective metallization of polymer balloon catheters with biocompatible, electrically conductive coatings using a low-thermal process.

Does ProPlate support prototype development?

Yes. ProPlate’s New Product Process Development (NPPD) team supports programs from initial concept through process validation and full production scaling. We develop custom plating processes, selective masking methods, and fixturing in-house for each new application. What plating tolerances can ProPlate hold?

ProPlate maintains thickness tolerance control as low as ±5 microinches (±0.000005″). Process temperatures across our 216 plating tanks are held to within ±5°F of setpoint, maintained by 50 heat exchangers running across two 400,000 BTU/hr condensing boiler units.

Where is ProPlate located?

ProPlate operates two facilities in Anoka, Minnesota. The West Facility is 38,500 ft² and houses six production lines with 216 plating tanks. The East Facility is 12,000 ft². Both are ISO 13485:2016 certified. Contact us to get in touch with our team.
