Fund P/E calculations are often simplified. Vanguard describes portfolio P/E this way: For a portfolio, the ratio is the weighted average price/earnings ratio of the stocks it holds. ratio/fox instead adds the market value, signed earnings and sales of the underlying companies, then calculates the fund or portfolio as one business.

How much of each company do you really own?

A company may appear in several ETFs and mutual funds while also being held directly. ratio/fox looks through every route, calculates each effective position, and combines matching companies. Instead of separate line items, you see your total exposure to the underlying company.

How much of one fund do you already own through another?

Every ETF and mutual-fund page ranks the 25 most similar funds by shared portfolio weight. Matching companies and explicitly reported same-currency cash count toward overlap; unknown positions do not. See whether a new fund genuinely broadens your portfolio or mainly adds more of the companies you already own.
