Can you self-refer to an audiologist?

Yes, you can go directly to an audiologist for a hearing evaluation and access to hearing aids without needing a referral from a doctor or nurse. This process, known as self-referral, allows you to schedule an appointment on your own. However, while audiologists don’t require a referral for ethical or licensing reasons, many insurance providers and Medicare require one for coverage.
